National Japanese Symposium

The School of Humanities Massey University and Japanese Studies Aotearoa New Zealand (JSANZ) cordially invite you to attend a national Japanese symposium 日本語教育の最前線:ニュージーランドの大学レベルの日本語教育者のための全国シンポジウム The front line of Japanese language education: a national symposium for Japanese language educators at university-level in New Zealand. 


The symposium will take place on the Auckland (Albany) campus of Massey University, on Saturday 8 - Sunday 9 December 2018. Registration will commence at 10.00 am Saturday and the event will conclude at 4.00 pm Sunday. We invite you to submit proposals for presentation of papers on topics relevant to Japanese language education in New Zealand (in Japanese or English  - 20 minutes plus 10 minutes Q and A) by August 19 2018.  


Please make your own arrangements for travel and accommodation. Two accommodation options near campus are the Ramada and the Quest. Thanks to Japan Foundation funding, travel and accommodation costs will be partially reimbursed after the event on submission of receipts.


The registration fee to cover costs of venue hire, overheads and catering (lunches and morning/afternoon teas) is $100 (early bird rate) and $120 (regular rate).


We are delighted to announce that the keynote speakers are Professor Eri Bannō 坂野永理先生and Associate Professor Tomoko Watanabe渡部倫子先生. Professor Bannō, from Okayama University, is the lead author of the Genki textbook series. Associate Professor Watanabe, from Hiroshima University, is on the board of the Japanese Language Education Association日本語教育学会and former chairman of the journal of the Association of Second Language Acquisition Research第二言語習得研究会. Both academics are specialists of Japanese language pedagogy and language testing. We are privileged that they are able to attend.
